Qur'an Teacher Grades 1–8
The Qur'an program at TES is not a supplementary class. It is the heart of what makes this school distinctly Islamic. The right candidate understands the honour and responsibility of this role and brings both the technical competency to teach proper recitation and the relational warmth to make students love what they are learning.
ABOUT THE ROLE
- Deliver structured, level-appropriate Qur'an instruction across Grades 1–8, covering hifz (memorisation), tilawah (recitation), and tajweed rules, with clear progression benchmarks at each level.
- Assess each student's current level accurately and design individualised recitation and memorisation targets that are ambitious but achievable.
- Teach tajweed rules explicitly and systematically, ensuring students understand not just how to apply them but why they matter.
- Introduce word-for-word translation of memorised and studied passages, helping students understand what they are reciting and building a direct connection between the Arabic text and its meaning.
- Incorporate age-appropriate tafseer into lessons, giving students context for the ayaat they are learning, including reasons for revelation, thematic meaning, and practical lessons for their lives as Muslims.
- Track memorisation progress carefully, conduct regular revision sessions, and maintain accurate records of each student's hifz portfolio.
- Create a classroom environment that is structured and focused, while remaining warm, encouraging, and free of shame or discouragement around mistakes.
- Integrate the meaning, context, and beauty of the Qur'an into lessons where appropriate, helping students connect to what they are reciting beyond the mechanics of pronunciation.
- Collaborate with Islamic Studies and Arabic teachers to reinforce Qur'anic vocabulary, word-for-word translation work, and thematic connections across subjects.
- Communicate regularly with parents about their child's progress, recitation targets, and practical ways to support daily Qur'an practice at home.
- Model adab with the Qur'an in every aspect of the classroom, from how it is handled to how it is discussed.
